Not surprisingly given the ownership by the Delon family (who also own Las Cases), Nenin always has a Medoc structure super-imposed on the ripe Merlot (75% of the blend, with the balance Cabernet Franc). The strong 2005 exhibits notes of sweet black cherries, licorice, and caramel in its medium to full-bodied, structured personality. The 1999 l'Eglise Clinet has evolved beautifully since tasted last year. This is one of the stars of the vintage. It is an extraordinary expression of elegance married to power. An opaque purple color is followed by aromas of black raspberries, currants, licorice, graphite, truffles, and earth. The wine is sweet and expansive. It is a model of purity, symmetry, and balance. This low acid, dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers up a sweet, jammy, black fruit-scented nose, with evidence of Asian spices and new oak. Made in a fleshy, lush, easy to understand and appreciate style, this forward 1995 will require drinking over its first 12-14 years of life. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2012.
